Hill Construction Company completed the $8.5 million redevelopment of Putnam’s Harbor on Lake Murray in May 2024, transforming a seven-acre property into one of the region’s largest marina facilities. The 23,000-square-foot project established a state-of-the-art boating destination accommodating over 360 vessels through innovative vertical storage solutions.

The centerpiece features the world’s fifth tallest dry stack storage facility, rising 75 feet across seven stories to maximize space efficiency while minimizing shoreline disruption. The marina combines this tower with 150 traditional wet slips, creating comprehensive storage options for the growing boating community.

Advanced marine engineering techniques distinguished the construction process. Workers installed a temporary coffer dam extending 50 feet from shore to enable construction of a unique 14-foot concrete bulkhead extending into Lake Murray. The project included 1,400 linear feet of concrete sea wall designed to preserve wildlife habitat and provide soil stabilization.

The facility offers comprehensive boater services including three fuel types, electricity, water, pump-out services and floating docks. A fully stocked ship store provides essentials while designated spaces regularly host mobile food trucks, creating diverse culinary options for patrons.

Environmental stewardship guided the design approach, with landscaping planned around existing natural elements and modern infrastructure optimizing land use. The marina provides pump-out services encouraging responsible waste management to maintain Lake Murray’s water quality.

The Concrete Foundation Association recognized the collaborative effort between Hill Construction Company and Chapin Concrete Contractors as Project of the Year in the non-building foundations category, acknowledging the innovative marine construction techniques employed throughout the redevelopment of this premier Lake Murray destination.
